This thing is a life saver. Ditch the old school bulb from the hospital they give you. You know the old light blue one. Well, there may be a place for that one to suction oral secretions from a newborn, but as far as little noses are concerned do yourself a favor and be sure to get one of these. Sounds gross but don’t knock it until you try it!
To go along with the “nose sucker” get a bottle of this to help soften up the nose contents. I prefer the spray type but the drops will work as well. The spray version just seems a bit more gentle.
Acetaminophen AKA: Tylenol
From newborns to adults we can all use a good pain or fever reducer at times. I have this is all forms at my house from liquid to chewables to rectal suppositories. I keep them all on hand. My kids have always given me a hard time taking medicine, so the rectal suppositories for fever come in handy when you can’t get a small baby to cooperate, and my BIGS like the chewable version compared to the liquid now that they are bit older.
Ibuprofen AKA: Advil or Motrin
Recommended for babies 6 months and up for pain or fever reduction. Basically, same info as above, I keep the liquid and chewable on hand. Unfortunately, they don’t make a suppository for those more challenging babies or kiddos.
This is a most have! The most basic kind will do. I would use an oral thermometer in the smaller babies and kiddos armpits as they won’t keep it under their tongue, with my last baby I went fancy and purchased a smart one using my FSA account. I love, love the one I linked this and highly recommend it. You can just stick it one baby and it will continuously monitor. My baby and kids have no problem wearing it!
Someone at my house, as you can imagine always needs one of these.
From bandages to antibacterial ointment. I have gone through so many of these. I have 3 boys so you can imagine how many bandages, gauze, tape, and wraps we have used. I always keep a small travel one in my diaper bag or purse for small scrapes and cuts.
Nothing is worse than a congested baby. A humidifier is about the only thing you can try to help relieve some of those symptoms, especially in small babies and children under the age of 6.
