All five of my kids had cradle cap. Yep all of them. Since cradle cap is generally not harmful to babies, with my first few kids I kind of just let it go. Cradle cap is hard to see in doors, but when you hop outside in the sunlight all of the imperfections are on display. With my first-born daughter she had a very mild case and with longer hair it was hard to notice. With my boys on the other hand, it was much easier to tell. My pediatrician has always told me that cradle cap was nothing to be concerned about even though it is caused by fungus and that home remedies usually do the trick for most mild to moderate cases. Topical prescription medications can be used for more severe cases prescribed and treated by your pediatrician. Back to my boys I generally used baby shampoo or oil to soften the skin then combed off the flakes with a fine-tooth comb. This method seemed to work about 50% and never seemed to completely go away. When my last baby started to develop cradle cap at about 3-4 months, I remembered not having the best success with my boys, so I searched for a different method, and I stumbled upon this DermaFrida product. I used this on my baby daughter and after two uses the cradle cap was gone. Seriously gone. This is why I decided to write this post. You may only use this a few times to get rid of cradle cap, but I continuously use this to wash her head and scalp and used the fine-tooth comb to groom her hair. This product is very gentle on baby’s scalp, and you don’t have to necessarily buy an additional softening product. Using this with baby shampoo worked like a charm for me. I did begin to use this method as soon as I started to notice some cradle cap so I may take a few more tires if your babies cradle cap has been present for a while. I would say about 30% of her scalp was covered at the time. Additionally, the cradle cap never returned…so that was an added bonus. You most likely don’t need this product if you can find a very fine-tooth comb like the one used in the DermaFrida. The comb paired with a softening agent like shampoo or baby oil will most likely do the trick.
